New U.S. Atty: Need to be creative in fighting gangs
An article run in the Chicago Tribune highlights a story by the new U.S. Attorney and his comments about how to combat Chicago's gang violence.
New U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon said today that his office will have to find creative ways to try to combat Chicago’s gang violence .
“We’re not going to arrest our way out of the gang problem that we have in the city of Chicago,” Fardon said in answer to a question about Senator Mark Kirk’s call earlier this year for the arrest of all 18,000 Gangster Disciples.
Fardon sat down for his first interview since assuming the powerful law enforcement post about a month ago.

Fardon also said he disagreed with Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s comments last month that federal prosecutors had a horrible record when it came to charging gun crimes in the city, and that he “told him as much” in a conversation they had after the comments were published in the Sun-Times.
“I don’t think that’s fair, and I respectfully disagree with the mayor,” Fardon said. He said the two have since had a “perfectly positive, cordial conversation” about the issue.
